Handmade ceramic and sterling silver Seascape stud earrings in sepia

These simple earrings have a wave design pressed into the wet clay, I have then applied a wash of brown across the design to resemble the colour of an old sepia photograph. They are part of a range of seascapes and seabird designs.

As with all my jewellery they are made and decorated entirely by hand.

After forming the studs from fine white clay, I imprint the designs. When dry, I sand the sides and round off the corners to ensure they are super smooth to the touch. They then have their first firing. Next I paint them using under-glazes and apply a transparent glaze before firing again to earthenware. The ceramic is glazed on the front and sides so is very smooth whilst retaining the texture of the imprinted design. The result is a pleasantly tactile item.

• Each stud is 8mm wide (about ⅓”) wide
