Ceramic and Sterling Silver Heart Stud Earrings in black, white and grey

These heart studs have a motif of concentric circles stamped into the wet clay, with a wash of black, thinned in places to grey and white. They are from a range of coordinating colourful heart-shaped accessories. As with all my jewellery they are made and decorated entirely by hand.

After forming the studs from fine white clay, I imprint the designs. When dry, I sand the sides and round off the edges to ensure they are super smooth to the touch. They then have their first firing. Next I paint them using under-glazes and apply a transparent glaze before firing again to earthenware. The ceramic is glazed on the front and sides so is very smooth whilst retaining the texture of the imprinted design. The result is a pleasantly tactile item.
