Walking across the meadow in summertime is a joyful experience as the swallows swoop and swirl around me. Such acrobatic, fast and elegant little birds, busily chasing insects across the sky. These are the inspiration for this design, silhouetted, cartwheeling, against a bright sky. This pendant is painted in blue and white, a classic combination for ceramics.
Many of my designs are inspired by where I live and work – rural Ceredigion in beautiful West Wales. All my jewellery it is made and decorated entirely by hand.
After forming my pendants from fine white clay, I imprint my design. When dry, I sand the back and sides of the pendants and round off the corners to ensure they are super smooth. They then have their first firing. Next I apply washes of colour to the background and paint in the detail using under-glazes, finally applying a transparent glaze, before firing again to earthenware. Being glazed all over they are smooth against the skin whilst retaining the texture of the imprinted design. The result is a pleasantly tactile item.
This is a one-off listing, the pendant in the photographs is the actual one you will receive.
• The pendant is approximately 1½"(4cm) long by ¾" (2cm) wide

• The chain shown is silver plated and 18" long with a lobster clasp. I can put the pendant onto a different length chain, as listed in the options. If you have any other requirements, such as metal-free, or a different clasp, message me and I'll let you know what I can do
